Widely used as a solvent for polymers such as PVC,polyurethane and acrylic resins.
It is also a raw material for the production of polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG)
and can be used in the electronics industries. |
Storage Condition |
Seal tightly, keep away from light and protect with nitrogen to prevent the formation of peroxides. |
Tetrahydrofuran
1,4-Epoxydiolane; Oxacyclopentane; Oxacyclopentane (THF)
Properties: Colorless, clear, volatile liquid with a similar odor to ether. Melting
point: -108.5°C, density: 0.8892 (water = 1), boiling point: 66°C.
Packaging: 180KG galvanized iron drum or steel drum or tank truck, sealed with
high-purity nitrogen.
Storage: THF should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat
sources, sparks, and open flames. To prevent static electricity, the transport
container should be grounded, the container sealed, and it should not be stored
with oxidizing agents or strong acids. THF is an easily flammable liquid, and a
flammable liquid label should be attached to the container.
Transport: Check the integrity and seal of the packaging container before
transportation, and ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, or
become damaged during transportation. It is strictly prohibited to mix and
transport. The transport vehicle or ship must be thoroughly cleaned and
disinfected before loading other goods.
Uses: Used as a solvent for natural and synthetic resins (especially vinyl resins),
and also used to produce butadiene, hexanitrile, hexanoic acid, hexanediamine,
etc. THF is an important organic chemical and fine chemical raw material, widely
used in resin solvents (magnetic tape coating, PVC surface coating, cleaning PVC
reactors, removing PVC film, glass paper coating, plastic printing ink,
thermoplastic polyurethane coating); reaction solvents (format reagents, alkali
metal alkyl compounds and aromatic alkali metal compounds, hydrogenated
aluminum and boron hydride, steroid compounds and large molecular organic
polymers); chemical intermediates (polymerizing to generate PTMEG, natural gas
flavoring agents); chromatography solvent (gel permeation chromatography).
Dangerous properties: Its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air. It can catch
fire easily when exposed to high heat, open flames, or strong oxidizing agents. It
can generate potentially explosive peroxides when in contact with air or under
light conditions. It can react with acids. It reacts violently with potassium
hydroxide and sodium hydroxide. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to
considerable distances at lower levels, igniting when in contact with a source of
ignition. It has an anesthetic effect on skin and mucous membranes.
Emergency Response to a Leak:
1. When a leak occurs, first extinguish all flames and isolate all sources of ignition to prevent fire and explosion.
2. Responders must wear the required protective equipment and gas mask. It is recommended that emergency response personnel wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and wear anti-static work clothes. Enter the scene from the upwind direction. Try to cut off the source of the leak as much as
possible.
3. Avoid entering sewer systems and other closed systems. Contain and recover the leaking liquid; absorb the remaining liquid with absorbent cotton and recover it. Do not use water to flush, to prevent the contamination area from expanding.
4. Notify relevant departments such as safety, environmental protection, and health. Firefighting Method: Use fire extinguishers such as foam, CO, dry powder, and sand to extinguish the fire.
Used as a solvent for natural and synthetic resins (especially vinyl resins), but also for the production of butadiene, adipdinitrile, adiponic acid, hexanediamine, etc. Tetrahydrofuran is an important organic chemical and fine chemical raw material, widely used in resin solvents (tape coating, PVC surface coating, cleaning PVC reactor, removal of PVC film, cellophane coating, plastic printing ink, thermoplastic polyurethane coating); Reaction solvents (form reagents, alkyl alkali and aryl alkali metal compounds, aluminium and boron hydrides, steroidal compounds and macromolecular organic polymers); Chemical intermediates (polymerization to produce PTMEG, natural gas flavoring agent); Chromatographic solvent (gel permeation chromatography).
