3-mercaptopropionic acid (3-MPA) is an organic sulfur compound with sulfhydryl and carboxyl groups in the molecule. It is an oily liquid that can be prepared from 3-chloropropionic acid or acrylonitrile and thiourea as raw materials. Due to the affinity of sulfhydryl sulfur to gold, it is used to prepare hydrophilic gold nanoparticles. 3-mercaptopropionic acid is an intermediate in the medicine fenalol and is also used as a polyvinyl chloride stabilizer. As thioglycolic acid can be used for transparent products, its stability is very good, better than other stabilizers. It can also be used as antioxidant, catalyst and biochemical reagent; 3-mercaptopropionic acid is used as chain transfer agent in polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer, which has the characteristics of good stability and long shelf life.
